It was nice while it lasted….

Hello people,

It seems that some other group has decided to pick this up. I am not a person that likes to waste work. As frustrated as I am about how this other group waited for us to release it before they release their own, I am going to take it positively from the point of view of the fans, which is that it got the attention that it deserved.

I guess this has been the story of my fansubbing career. I try to do things to benefit the community, but it always backfires and I get nothing in the end. But I know that what I do is for the good of the community, and I don’t expect anything in return.

I have asked sm2345 to approach this OuttaNowhere group for a joint, but I am unsure if he has done that yet. But for me, it is pretty clear cut, if there is someone else doing it, I am not going to waste my effort doing it. I have better things to do. Some of you might not agree, but I have been doing this unsung job for so many years, so please take my word for it when I mean that it is not worthwhile wasting work. Furthermore, circumstances have also changed compared to a few years ago. Unlike before, I am holding down a full-time job which meant that I had to stay up late over the weekends just to work on episodes 1 and 2. The weekend is the only time I could catch up on some sleep, but I chose to use it to work on this show. This is to show just how much effort I am putting into this. But I also know that fans are pragmatic people just like how the world is. They would just flock to the fastest release and be content with that. As we all know, Oyatsu is painstakingly slow, so I am unwilling to invest so much and get almost nothing in return. Please forgive me for that. In any case, I am happy that the series is getting the attention it deserves.

So long folks!

PS: Sorry sm2345 for bailing out on the team yet again and posting this without your consent. If only you agreed to put out a minimal effort release so that we could be faster, but that was wishful thinking from me anyway. Hopefully you get to continue with this other group. Otherwise, you could just stall it like your other projects. XD

Slightly belated Happy 6th Anniversary!

sm2345: Hey guys, it’s been a while! Almost 11 months since our last release, it seems… I hope you’re all doing well.

Well, yesterday, 1st of July, marks the day we turn 6! Time does fly by…

Nevertheless, as you can see, we’re not very active right now. But rest assured, things are moving very quietly and slowly in the background. Honestly, I wanted to do some surprise releases, but real life has been really busy…

Rest assured, we are working on stuff!

Also, I was discussing something with the current active staff, mainly Lann094 and Majin3. It seems that the #1 issue that has been plaguing us for years now are lack of Typesetters. I wonder why.

So we decided to change our policies a bit. For all TV releases (if we do any), we will now use bare-minimum and simple Typesetting. Hopefully that will alleviate the situation somewhat.

On another note, it was indeed a lot of fun on the day we met up.

Nevertheless, thanks for all your support, and hope to see you soon with releases!

Lann094: As for that release image with the weird bubble heads, we actually met up! A few months ago, Majin3 and I decided we wanted to take our second trip to Japan, and figured we may as well travel together, as well as meet up with sm2345 when we were over there. It’s so great to be able to be at a stage in our lives where we can all come from multiple parts of the world to meet and weeb it up in our favourite country. We spent a day together exploring various stores in Akihabara, and then headed to sm’s apartment to actually do some fansubbing work. Shame it takes international travel just to get him motivated to translate stuff these days… It was still a great experience, and I hope we can do it again sometime!

Majin3: Just like on my first Japan trip we met up with sm2345 once again. The only difference was now everyone being an Oyatsu member and there being more weeb-related activities. I wonder if we’d be another 5 minutes further in the Luck & Logic script if we’d went to sm2345’s place to prevent him procrastinating the first time round as well… Anyway, everything important has already been said. It was a fun trip and once some excess money piles up again I’ll be looking forward to repeating something similar. Pictures of the trip can be found on this blog not associated with me at all.

Spring Recommendation: Tsugumomo

Aside from Natsume Yuujinchou, Tsugumomo is the only other anime I have been following studiously week in and week out. With a new studio Zero-G helming the production, I was unsure what to expect. But with the catchy theme songs, especially the ED, I was immediately hooked to watch more. That is why I believe that having strong theme songs inevitably makes an anime much nicer than it really is sometimes. Music is important, and theme songs are important. Tsugumomo uses a classic approach of having an upbeat OP and a slightly melancholic ED which is a tried and tested formula that works by keeping people watching.

If I were to only say that Tsugumomo was only good for its theme songs, I would be doing it a huge injustice because as you watch, you develop strong attachments to the main characters. 12 episodes is definitely too little for a manga that has been serialising for over 10 years. Surely, there is sufficient material for more, but sometimes, having too many episodes for the sake of it becomes slow and torturous. Watching Tsugumomo, you can tell that this is a carefully written anime that you can hardly spot any unnecessary scenes. The pacing is just impeccable. The anime reminded me a bit of Kaze no Stigma, Shakugan no Shana and even Inuyasha.

Aside from the pacing, what makes Tsugumomo so good is that it has everything in it. It is an action genre with fantastic action scenes, but it also leaves sufficient time for ecchi when it is appropriate without interfering and taking the spotlight away from the story. It has drama at appropriate times for you to develop an attachment to the characters. Finally, it has comedy all around. This is definitely an anime that anybody can watch, regardless of whether you are a particular fan of a certain genre. It is very mainstream, except for the ecchi, and easy to get into it. So if you are looking for a fun anime that has great action and good chemistry between the male and female leads, this is the anime for you.

TL;DR: Tsugumomo is an anime that has very good pacing despite having the tall order of reconciling multiple genres together in action, comedy, ecchi, drama, and finally, it has very good theme songs. Watch it and you will not regret.

Regarding NyaaTorrents

Never thought I would get to see or even say this, but Nyaa is down and most likely gone for good. I am unsure why they did not bother looking for another domain, but I guess what we can all learn from this is the same as you would in any investment strategy: never park all your goods in one basket. If something happens, you can still rely on other baskets. This is called diversification, and turning anime piracy into a monopoly only makes it easier for the authorities to get rid of the root and with it goes everything. Fortunately, Oyatsu has members who were wise enough to foresee this happening, therefore we have Minglong as our primary tracker aside from Nyaa. Till this day, Minglong has never gone down ever, at least not that I have known. Aside from having zero seeds, you could still grab our releases on Minglong, not that I am implying anybody still watches our releases or even know we exist. Alternatively, there are still a few torrent index libraries such as Animetosho and Tokyo Toshokan, the latter, still going strong after so many years.

In any case, even if torrents are dead (due to excessive reliance on Nyaa), the IRC community is strong and will continue to be strong because it is tougher to eliminate releases through the IRC unlike through bittorrent. The IRC community was the old way of getting releases and sort of forces fans to interact with the fansubbers while downloading releases. It does not require seeds unlike torrents, so getting old releases should not be a problem so long as the XDCC bot still hosts the releases. Additionally, it also allows fans to gather at one channel and interact, talking about the anime they like. This community spirit is noticeably on the decline due to the convenience of torrent. Perhaps, without Nyaa, this would encourage more fans to return to the traditional IRC XDCC mode of downloads. But I would be naive to think that because torrents are still well and alive, even if Nyaa is not. Pretty soon, an alternative will come up, and everything will be back to normal.

Five years anniversary/birthday

So uh, today marks the day Oyatsu turns 5 years old.

Time sure flies.

On this occassion, I’d like to thank all the awesome people who have contributed, and contribute to our releases. Without you guys, Oyatsu wouldn’t exist perhaps, and even if it did, it wouldn’t be as fun as it is to work, or have worked, with you guys. Thank you.

We know we’re not the most consistent group around, but thank you, those who have watched any of our releases as well as supported us all the way through. We’ve been through several ups and downs, but if you were able to enjoy our releases, that is all the satisfaction we need.

As you’ve noticed, we don’t think we’ll be doing much ongoing shows since simulcasts do an awesome job at it nowadays, but we’d like to do a 5th anniversary commemoration project if possible. We’re in talks regarding that. Apart from that, a few old shows I’ve been wanting to do for the past few years. It’d be great if those happened.

Just a small request: please put all your complaints and negative stuff in the post below it, the one on Status.

Thank you all again, and enjoy the snack!

Status of stuff

Hi all, I hope you are well. Your resident cause of delays guy here. So well, I shifted to another country and it’s back-to-school (college) time for me here, as well as under huge pressure for entrance exams in end-August. This is the reason of no releases for a while.

Nevertheless, I kinda wanted to update what’s going on, so here you go:

Luck & Logic:

06-07@ QC

08-12@TL

Denpa Kyoushi:

05-07@TL

I’m not sure whether Denpa Kyoushi will be finished, honestly. We’ll take a call after ep 7 is released. This is because everything regarding Typesetting and encoding have been done till ep 7, so those will be released.

I’m sorry for being so quiet for so long. Feel free to vent below.

‘Sup

I surprised even myself when I actually finished an anime after so long… Actually, not that long, the last was Parasyte maybe a year ago or so.

I managed to finish Arslan Senki, so go watch it if you think you still want to give anime a chance. The show is about a boy’s quest to become King alongside his trusted aides, and to take back his kingdom. If you like tsundere girls who cross dresses as boys, there is Etoile in the show and I have taken quite a liking to her despite her being a classic tsundere. Other than that, the anime is pretty serious and talks about relevant themes such as the fact that there are no right or wrong in war. It is mostly started due to difference in ideologies, beliefs and even religion. It is sad, but with humanity, there will be war. History has shown that it will never go away unless there is a greater evil which could unite humanity. Otherwise, our insecurities breed suspicion and discontent among even our fellow mankind.

From here on

Planning posts are overrated. Cos plans tend to not work out. More for us, thanks to me.

But still, no one will understand unless I say it out aloud. So…

On the anime side of things:

1. Denpa Kyoushi: This will get finished. I won’t drop it despite all the criticism it gets. I’ll hope that the show responds to my feelings too.

2. Ushinawareta: Picking it up would mean seeing it to the end.

No new shows.

Big words? You bet.

Thing is, we will very likely need external help. I won’t go far to say a Translator to help with both, but maybe some editing and/or TLC help in future. We’ll see how it goes.

However, I won’t be posting anything about it till I have made progress on both, and have talked with the existing staff about their availabilities and all. Else it’ll be rude to them, and you’ll keep throwing eggs and tomatoes at me, saying I’m all words and no action.

Also, another thing I realized in 4.5 years: there’s no point worrying what people say about you. Took me too long to realize. So I just leveled up~

There are some few things that are in the pipeline too. Let’s see.

That will be all from us for now. See you soon.

We’re 4 years old!

Wow, time sure flies. It only feels like yesterday I was in college and got together few of my close friends to form this group. Since then, we have been through a lot, and not only good things happened, but we still stuck, and here we are.

Thanks to each and every one of the staff who made this possible. Every one of you, guys. Couldn’t have done without you. Special mention to the founding staff, especially¬†ZeroYuki, without whom this group wouldn’t exist in the first place.

Thanks a lot to the fans too! Without your encouragement, we wouldn’t have made it this far.

Also well, I’ll be releasing something very soon to commemorate this, so stay tuned!

As for shows, almost all my friends are retired or busy, so there won’t be any new ongoing shows. I’ll be finishing Denpa Kyoushi and Ushinawareta (shut it, I’ll finish it lol) by sometime… this year?

Cheers to everyone’s and the group’s well-being.

Denpa Kyoushi Delays

These past few days, I’ve been trying to write an important document.

Which meant no translations, no free time to even read VNs. So we’ve fallen behind a bit.

However, I’d like to finish that by this weekend, and Typesetting has been going on in the background. Even if 04 is not translated completely, all the typesetting is done. And 05 Typesetting is also under way.

Once this is out of the way, the catch-up party will begin.

Especially as episode 7 will feature the best girl. <3

Please understand. Thank you.

That’s done for now. Many of you didn’t understand, but whatever. And just so you know, ep 4 translation is done, with 05 underway.

Anyway, editor is a bit busy but he’ll be back very soon. I’ll do whatever I can so we can release ASAP.

Episode 07 just turned things around, by the way. CHINAMI KANAAN BEST GIRL ADMIT YOU
